Codes Interim Process For Introduction of Alternative Technology Updated Aug 13, 2004 (26kb) NAESA and NEII have recognized that there is a strong demand for innovative new products, such as MRL Elevators. A steady stream of New Technology will continue to emerge driven by customer demand and Performance Based systems around the World. The ASME A17 Standards Committee has recognized this demand and is developing a Performance Based Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators. Significant progress has been made with the Performance Based Code. However, development of this new Code will take several years. In the interim, prior to the publication of the ASME/CSA Performance Based Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators, NAESA and NEII recommends that the "INTERIM PROCESS FOR INTRODUCTION OF ALTERNATIVE TECHNOLOGY"; be followed by elevator companies when making application for the acceptance of new or alternate technology not addressed by the Code; and that AHJ's utilize when allowing alternative arrangements under Section 1.2 of ASME A17.1. A carbon copy of this release along with the Interim Process for the Introduction of Alternative Technology can be found at the NAESA web site.
