NEII Government Affairs
California State Standard, Title 8, Chapter 4

California is in the process of drafting the Group V elevator regulations. No current MRL designs could meet the draft requirements, and the proposal would increase costs and impact building design, personnel management and other aspects of our business. Of greatest concern, however, is that the draft proposal is unjustified and provides no increase in safety. The following documents will help you understand the issues and potential impacts.

DOSH issued the first draft of the proposed code updates on April 22, 2014. DOSH made changes and issued Version 2 on Sept 14, 2014 and then Version 3 on June 19, 2015. This document is the most current version and reflects all proposed updates to the current regulations. The yellow highlights reflect differences between the proposed rules and the existing rules in CA. The text highlighted in blue are changes put forth in Version 2 and the text highlighted in green are the changes put forth in Version 3.
